The Cascadas de Agua Azul ( Spanish for " Waterfall Blue " ) is found in the Mexican state of Chiapas . Located in the municipality Tumbalá , 69 kilometers from Palenque . Agua Azul is actually a series of shallow ponds and waterfalls are formed by natural dams rimstone . The water that is rich in limestone down tiered in a series of natural dams and ended at the Shumulhá which has crystal clear water , waist deep . During the dry season , in April or May , shimmering blue water due to the high amount of dissolved limestone . But during the rainy season , because there is more water , the blue color will be reduced .
